A delicate one-of-a-kind miniature landscape painted directly onto a preserved peepal (bodhi) leaf. Autumn-fired trees and a bare branch reflecting into still water, worked in oranges, purples, and cool blues over the leaf's ghostly veined surface.

About the Medium

Peepal (bodhi) leaf painting is a traditional Indian art form in which the soft tissue of the leaf is carefully decomposed away to leave only its skeleton — a fine, lace-like surface that the artist then paints upon. Each piece is fragile, unrepeatable, and quietly luminous.
